Biography & Career
■ Sumo Talent Honed in a Foreign Land
Born and raised in Ukraine, Aonishiki grew up practicing various martial arts, including sumo from an early age. He distinguished himself in competitions such as the European Junior Championships, achieving numerous successes on the international stage. Overcoming the difficult circumstances in his homeland, he came to Japan in 2022 with an unyielding passion for professional sumo. He then entered the Ajigawa Stable, led by former Sekiwake Aminishiki.
■ Meteoric Rise and Promotion to Ozeki
Making his professional debut in the Maezumo (pre-tournament trials) of the September 2023 tournament, he quickly racked up victories with his natural speed, flexible physique, and sharp technical skills. He tore through the lower divisions—Jonokuchi, Jonidan, Sandanme, and Makushita—at an astonishing pace, earning promotions to the Juryo and Makuuchi divisions. Creating a sensation in the Reiwa era sumo world, his overwhelming talent and relentless hard work culminated in his well-deserved promotion to the prestigious rank of Ozeki.

With a profound respect for Japanese traditional culture and the way of sumo, his dedication to mastering the Japanese language and his earnest approach to daily training have made him widely beloved by fans and officials alike. Bearing the hopes of both Ukraine and Japan, he steps onto the dohyo (ring) with a heart full of gratitude and fighting spirit.
